Why do we choose pain?
Life throws the lessons our way,
Experiences to grow from,
Like masochists we crawl back,
Sometimes it’s via deception,
Ignorance,
Impatience,
Loneliness,
Or sheer idiocy,
Regardless, everything that causes us pain,
Hurt,
Heartache,
Regret,
They seem to return with a sweet smile,
A wicked vengeance,
Maybe it’s the irresistible lure of a challenge,
The powerful pull of what can’t be tamed,
Or claimed,
All the wisdom in the world doesn’t help,
“Fool me once, shame on you”,
“Learn from your mistakes”,
“Forgive, but don’t forget”,
If the lessons of today forge who we are tomorrow,
Why do we insist on breaking the mould?
Why do we continue down paths leading only to darkness?
