As it thuds in my chest,
Feet and stomach,
I shudder in anticipation,
I can see my shirt move with every thump,
Keeping me active as I sit here still,
But as loud as it is,
Ringing in my ears,
No one can hear it,
Not over their own tears,
And as the engines roar,
People’s lives change,
Arriving anew,
Coming home,
Or leaving for the unknown,
Lives packed into tiny spaces,
Ready to find out what that future holds.
