So for the first time I’ve been nominated for a blogging award. Big shout out to Franzi at Fraeulein Reiselust for her nomination of me. This will be fun 🙂
The award’s purpose is to promote (small) blogs and get to know them with the help of 11 questions. Kind of like an interview to the person running the blog. It’s always 11 of them and they get designed by the person who nominates you. Then the fun begins: You answer them, design 11 new ones and nominate up to 11 of the blogs that inspire you and that you love. At the end of my questions my nominees will be announced!
So here are the questions I got asked:
Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging to help myself get over my constant distaste for my own writing. In addition to a slight fear of having it read by anyone else it was purely a tool to help me develop as a writer.
Describe your last trip in three words!
Utterly eye opening
What was the most amazing thing that happened to you when you travelled?
That’s a tough one! I’d have to say making so many friends in all the hostels along the way. It really helped fuel my desire to get back out on the road.
What do you do when you are not travelling?
I spend my time equally between drinking coffee, reading books, preparing future trips, debating with friends and running up and down the beach with my two dogs like a madman.
What is your favourite place and why?
My favourite place is so difficult to answer because I’m such a picky person and my opinion changes almost daily. I’d have to say at home it’d be at anything to do with futsal – I’m at home there. Overseas my favourite place to visit so far would be Japan. It was beautiful and safe and the food was magnificent.
What kind of traveller are you? (Camper, backpacker, hiker etc.)
I’m a budget traveller since that’s all my bank account will allow. So I’ll say backpacker, but I’m not adverse to camping or hiking and I could easily incorporate them into any trip. I’m not much of a luxury traveller, that is unless you’re going to lend me a few thousand 😉
What do you always take with you when you travel? (3 items :P)
Interesting question! My travel towel, a notepad/notebook to write my journals in, and condoms, because while my blog is titled “Mistakes And Adventures” that’s one mistake i’d not like to have after an adventure.
What is in your opinion an underestimated travel destination?
Laos for sure. It’s this wonderland of activity and cheap everything and compared to Thailand and Vietnam it doesn’t seem to get much the same attention. I was unfortunately pretty sick when I arrived in Laos (flu) but even then I still had a fantastic time and the things you can get up to when healthy would make for a wondrous adventure.
Did travelling change you and if so how?
It certainly did. I think it changes everyone. I’m definitely more confident, the only reason I never went travelling overseas before I was 24 was fear. I was never able to muster up the courage to get on a plane, and now I can’t think of doing anything else. I’ve never feared socialising with people but I have to say the social aspect of travelling really helps anyone out as well. The fact you can just sit next to someone and start a conversation is so refreshing.
Where does your next trip take you?
Well I’m 95% sure I’m about to head off to SE Asia again and visit Malaysia, the Philippines and Indonesia for about two months. However, if a job in Canada does come through I might have to rethink that and save my cash for a working holiday there. Either way I can’t wait to get on the road again.
What is your most valuable tip for fellow travel bloggers?
My most valuable trip is to be yourself. Don’t write generic trash that literally thousands of others are already doing (and probably have a bigger following). Be genuine, be honest, and if that means saying something shocking or alternative don’t shy away from it. Your readers (who are your readers for a reason) will appreciate it more than anything else. I think that’s a quality I love about certain blogs and I’m sure I’m not alone in that.
My Nominations: Have a squizz!
Swashbuckling With Words: My friend J.J Azar an aspiring writer whose blog has always found a way to analyse, and entertain.
Travelling Matters To Us: Mel and Susan are some more good friends to my blog. Their travel blog is thoroughly enthralling and the amount of travel they do is awe-inspiring.
The Travelling Diary of a Dippy Dotty Girl: A new friend of mine whose adventures around the world are quite entertaining and her blog is full of great advice for everyone.
Kim Gorman: The caption to Kim’s blog reads “Writing to heal, grow and inspire” and a more accurate description I can’t imagine. Kim’s stories are a mixture of humour and real issues and I’m always entertained by them.
Roads Bel Travelled: A great blog about adventures in various parts of the world! I encourage you to join in and read along as Bel explores new and exciting places.
