On Monday I was struck with by a wave of inspiration. It was your typical Queensland late Spring Monday, hot, muggy, teasing you with the hope of rain that would ultimately never arrive. I sat here melting and while doing the usual mindless scroll through Facebook my eye caught onto a big red shiny advertisement for Flight Centre that my friend had commented on “Cheap flights between now and January when flying to Japan”. Well that was that. I was overcome with this desire to just go, and so like a madman possessed I begun planning.

I’ve never done any solo travelling yet, all my travels have been with my ex partner or with a small group of friends and I have to say the idea both excites me and terrifies me. I’ve also never planned a trip by myself and I have come to realise it is an incredibly exciting time. Naturally I’m a dreamer, so all these places I’ve found and reviews I’ve read fill my head with wonderful little adventures and it just fuels my desire to get going.

On a quick side note I want to say thank you to all the travel blogs out there that I’m following/being followed by, through reading your stories and helpful hints I’ve learnt way more than I could possibly need, and you’ve saved me hundreds of dollars*. I planned and booked the entire trip free of any agent and from what I can find I’ve done it as cheaply as possible, thanks to you. The rant on the travel agent trying to blatantly rob me is a post for another day.

The plan is thus:

  • Spend a week in Tokyo
  • 3 weeks exploring south of Tokyo (Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Fukuoka, Kumamoto)
  • 10 days in Korea (Busan, Seoul mainly)
  • Approx 10-15 days in Hokkaido with my friend who works there.
  • POSSIBLY another two weeks in Indonesia on my way home, we’ll see.

All up it will be around 2 full months of travelling, with the possibility of a few additional days along the way. Ideally i’d love to tick off numbers 22, and 23 of my bucket list https://mistakesandadventuresblog.wordpress.com/2016/10/27/kicking-the-bucket/
I’ve also never seen snow in person, so that’s about to change! I’ll definitely be writing more about this, and ideally i’ll blog as I go (now is about the time I curse my laptop for dying unexpectedly). I hope you’ll join me on this adventure
